Lowender Perran 2011

Lowender Perran y'n vlydhen ma o hwarvos splann dell vydh usys-nyns eus ayrgylgh a'n par yn hwir. Lowender Perran this year was it's usual fantastic self - there really just isn't an atmosphere like it. The weather was very kind from Thursday right through to the end of Sunday, and if there were no shows to see, a walk and a pint of something on the beach was possible any time you wanted. For the surfers there was some great surf - a good 4 - 5 feet with an offshore wind, and a chance to dip the toes for the less adventurous.

Yth esa an diskwedhyans-igeri soedhogel dhe dhy'Yow gans KAN ow tiskwedhes aga gis nowythek, ha Leski - seni krowd ughel y nerth ha sythol mortholys ow taletha an dra yn gis Kernewek hengovek gans aga dalgh dibarow ha passhyon rag an hengov ilowek Kernow. The official opening concert took place on Thursday with KAN demonstrating their innovative style, and Leski - high-energy fiddle-playing and hammered dulcimer starting things off in traditional Cornish style with their unique repetoire and passion for the Cornish musical tradition. The evening continued in traditional Manx style with Kippercaille (pictured) to make sure everyone was exhausted enough to sleep well on the first night!

Unn dra a'n gwella a Lowender Perran, hag unn styr bras a'n ayrgylgh hudel yw an ilowydhyon nag yns a'n diskwedhyansow soedhek. Yma'n dus ma a-ves an stevell-donsya, owth omdidhana kemmys ha didhana pubonan arall!

One of the best things about Lowender Perran, and one of the main reasons for the magical atmosphere is the musicians who aren't part of the formal shows. The regulars, and the new faces, who just bring their instruments along, sit down and join a session wherever it starts happening, and don't stop again until the early-hours. These guys are outside the ballroom, entertaining themselves at least as much as evryone else!

Ilow sevur hag ilow rag namoy es didhan. Henn yw  band rokk Kernewek Hanterhir, ow krena Barr An Howlsedhes gans tro 'anebilys' (dre vras) yn Sowsnek ha Kernewek dy'Gwener gorthugherweyth.

Still in the Sunset Bar; this is Pentorr, a progressive folk band from south east Cornwall, playing bass-driven arrangements of Cornish tunes. Accoustic instruments including fiddle and mandolin combine complex Cornish rhythms with other influences. In this case, they're playing a reggae version of the Cornish favourite Newlyn Reel.

Ottomma bagas-dons Kembrek, Dawnswyer Gwerin Pen Y Fai, ow performya a-dro dhe'n dre.

This is a Welsh dance group, Dawnswyer Gwerin Pen Y Fai, doing their thing out and about around the town.

No Lowender Perran would be complete without a performance by the Two Bards; Pol Hodge and Bert Biscoe, celebrating contemporary Cornwall with their poetry and songs, expressing the humour, anger, aspiration and regret of the Cornish Nation.

Nyns yw Lowender Perran rag tevesigyon hepken! Lowender Perran isn't just for the adults! There's a younger generation getting involved as well, these girls from the Cornish dance group 'Tan Ha Dowr', helping to ensure that Cornwall's traditions aren't lost and, in fact, making sure that they continue the phenominal growth which has bucked the trend amongst Europe's minority cultures and stateless nations.

Keffrys ha'n ilow, yma chons dhe brena taklow divers dhiworth stallow gonisogethek. Ottomma bagas a ilowydhyon ow kul ilow splann a-dro dhe stall Tony Dixon, le may kwerth ev pibow ha dafar ilowek arall. Ymons i ow tiswedhes an fordh may hyllir y dhevnydhya.

As well as the music and dance, there's a chance to buy all sorts of stuff from the cultural stalls in the hotel. Here we have a group of musicians who have set up camp around Tony Dixon's stall where he sells pipes, whistles and other musical equipment, demonstrating how to use it all with some great music.
